Halloween and Dark Tattoo Search Trends Report
Quick answer: Searches for Halloween and dark tattoos in the US center on flash, ghosts and small, spooky designs. Across 2,486 keywords worth 79,530 monthly searches, the word 'flash' appears in 11,810 searches a month and 'ghost' in 6,590, more than seven times any other motif.

Key findings
- Ghosts lead every other motif. Keywords containing 'ghost' total 6,590 monthly searches, versus 910 for the second motif (pumpkin / jack-o'-lantern). 'Cute ghost tattoo' alone has 1,300.
- Flash is the biggest modifier. 11,810 monthly searches include 'flash', ahead of 'horror' (7,310) and 'spooky' (4,510).
- Searchers want to see designs. Of the 404 keywords with SERP data, 96% show an image pack and 99% show video results.
- About 14% of the demand is off-topic. 'Deathly Hallows' (Harry Potter) and shop names such as 'Hallowed Ground' share words with Halloween but not its intent.
- Competition is low. The average keyword difficulty is 22/100, and 97% of keywords score under 30.
- Skeleton hands and trash polka are rising. Google Trends shows 'skeleton hand tattoo' up 50% and 'trash polka tattoo' up 90% in the month to October 17, 2026.
Data and methodology
This report combines two US datasets. The first is a keyword-research export of 2,486 Halloween and dark tattoo keywords from October 2026, with estimated average monthly search volume, keyword difficulty (0–100) and the search features shown on Google's results page. The second is the Google Trends list of rising queries in the tattoo category for September 17 to October 17, 2026, where percentages show growth in relative search interest, not absolute searches.
Hallowed Ink grouped every keyword into one intent cluster with fixed word-matching rules (the first matching rule wins), so each search is counted once. Motif and modifier totals count a keyword in every group whose word it contains, so those totals overlap. Volumes are tool estimates rounded by the provider; 2,079 of the 2,486 keywords show 30 or fewer monthly searches and 157 show 100 or more. Six Google Trends queries that are crossword clues or unrelated topics were excluded.

Search demand by intent
General 'Halloween tattoo' searches form the largest single cluster, but the long tail is spread across flash, horror moods, small designs, ghosts and stencils. Temporary tattoos and horror-movie characters are sizable clusters with product or fan intent rather than tattoo planning.
